Working from home, and making enough money to quit your day job, has become a prominent American dream. We all love the idea of making enough money to support our families without leaving the confines of our home, so that we can maintain the freedom of coming and going as we please, answering only to ourselves, enjoying vacation and time off anytime we choose, and being able to attend all the family functions we would have missed in the past.

While this sounds like a beautiful promise, it's not realistic, and any company or online retailer that offers you the opportunity to become a millionaire overnight is very likely only seeking to do only one thing: take your money. The only person getting rich off these schemes is the person you end up paying.

Most lucrative online business opportunities do require some overhead and start-up cost, but to ensure that you reach maximum potential online, you should avoid paying more than you're comfortable with and every penny you spend should have a purpose: There should be no extraneous fees for services that have no value. Basically, if you are asked to pay for something in order to start your business, you should receive a tangible product returned from that purchase. The company seeking to sponsor you should be willing to explain exactly what is you will be receiving for the price you will pay.

Remember, any online firm that its secretive or less than open about the products and services you'll be receiving to help you start your business is very likely a scam and should be avoided at all costs.
